Rožnov pod Radhoštěm (Vsetín region) - In Rožnov pod Radhoštěm in the Vsetín region, the construction of Jurkovič's lookout tower has been completed. The new tourist destination, designed by the famous architect Dušan Jurkovič from 1896, will be opened to the public at the turn of April and May, stated Rožnov's town hall spokesman Tomáš Gross today, according to ČTK. The construction of the lookout tower was criticized by some councilors during the crisis last year.
According to Gross, the building is expected to receive its occupancy permit in February. "We are still making land adjustments in the area, as well as addressing minor complaints and unfinished work," noted Gross. The investment in the lookout tower exceeded ten million crowns, part of which is to be covered by European Union subsidies.
The 18-meter tall lookout tower has risen on Karlův Hill above the Wallachian village, which is part of the open-air museum of Wallachian Museum in Nature. For now, it is inaccessible to the public; due to protection, a motion detector and fire sensor have been installed there, the spokesman reported.
To remind future generations of events in Rožnov pod Radhoštěm, the town hall has placed several items in the dome of the lookout tower's roof. "In the tube, there is a bottle of Wallachian plum brandy, information about the history of the lookout tower's construction plans, a list of city council members, and the current issue of Spektrum Rožnovska," stated Gross.
The main goal of Rožnov pod Radhoštěm was to make the city and the entire microregion more attractive and to attract more tourists or admirers of the unique Jurkovič architectural style. People can admire it, for example, in Pustevny near Radhošť, where the buildings Libušín and Maměnka are located. In the Zlín region, buildings designed by Jurkovič can also be seen in the spa town of Luhačovice.
