Plasy (Plzeň Region) - Today, the first visitor season of the Center for Construction Heritage was launched in Plasy, in the Plzeň Region. The extensive area, built with the help of European grants by the National Technical Museum (NTM), will cater to both tourists and the professional public. It documents the development of construction and its technologies, said NTM Director General Karel Ksandr at the opening of the center today.

While the permanent exhibition on construction is located in the building of a former brewery and showcases, for example, the development of masonry, heating, or plumbing, the sprawling area of the former farmyard offers craft workshops where visitors can see historical technologies, such as in the fields of carpentry, blacksmithing, and plumbing. Historical lime kilns, for instance, may be of interest to the general public as well as professionals and students.

Ksandr stated that the establishment of the center was an expansion of the exhibition space of NTM beyond Prague. "At the same time, the exhibition area of the museum has increased by more than 2,700 square meters, which is by a third," said Ksandr.

The ceremonial opening of the season was also attended by Minister of Culture Daniel Herman (KDU-ČSL) and Minister for Regional Development Karla Šlechtová (for ANO). She stated that she is not a supporter of the methods of accessing European grants from 2007 to 2013, but according to her, grants for similar projects make sense. The total costs for the reconstruction of the devastated premises of the monastery were over 330 million crowns, most of which were covered by grants.

While today was a ceremonial opening and interested parties could visit the exhibitions for free, the official start of the visitor season will begin on Sunday, with admission fees. However, they are low, with the full ticket costing 50 crowns and the reduced ticket 30 crowns.
