Litomyšl - A Lidl supermarket will be built in the historical area of Perštýn in Litomyšl. The baroque granary will be preserved, and its future use has not yet been decided. Only a retail store, not a classic shopping center, will be created in agreement with the city representatives, said Mayor Daniel Brýdl (Generation 89).

"Citizens need not fear that the square will become deserted and local merchants will lose their jobs, as is rumored in the city," Brýdl stated.

The city hall has agreed with the investor, Agile company, to announce an architectural competition for the design of the building, which must respect the surrounding built environment and the historical character of the location. A similar approach was chosen in the past for the Billa supermarket. The city previously commissioned a study on how the Perštýn area should look in the future.

"The historical granary will definitely remain, and together with the city, we will seek sources for its reconstruction and potential new use," said Miroslav Hospůdka, the managing director of Agile. Lidl could start construction next summer, and it could open by the end of 2020.

Perštýn is an area covering nearly 8000 square meters, built by the aristocrats of the Pernštejn family in the 16th century. It burned down in 1661 and was rebuilt. It is the only official brownfield in Litomyšl and is listed in the database of dilapidated and unused properties by the CzechInvest agency, which supports business.
