Třebíč - In April, the construction of a lookout tower will begin on Pekelný Hill near Třebíč. The floor of the observation terrace of the tower, made mainly of larch, will be 23.3 meters above the ground. The top of the tower will be an additional 3.2 meters higher. The construction should be completed in the autumn. Part of the project supported by the European Union is also the establishment of facilities for tourists in the National House in the city center. This was announced today by the town hall spokesman Ivan Přibík. "The realization of both parts of the project will cost a total of 12 million crowns, including VAT. Of that, ten million crowns will be covered by a grant from the European Union," he stated. The load-bearing structure of the tower will consist of two interchanging rotated squares made of larch wood, which is resistant to weather conditions. The center will feature a spiral staircase with steel rods clad in stainless steel mesh. The main staircase will connect to a landing leading to a smaller summit staircase. A new marked trail will lead to the lookout tower, starting from the clinic on Vltavínská Street. There will be resting spots along the route equipped with shelters and benches. Facilities for tourists, including restrooms, will be created by adapting the spaces in the courtyard section of the National House on Karlovo náměstí. According to Deputy Mayor Marie Černá, the design of the lookout tower on Pekelný Hill is linked to a local legend in which Saint Prokop tamed the devil, who was then thrown away and landed on Pekelný Hill. This will be referenced in the newly designed logo featuring a figure of a devil. "In addition to its connection to the Basilica of Saint Prokop, the tower will also incorporate an element of Jewish culture. The floor plan, combined from two squares, resembles the Star of David," Černá stated. In the Třebíč region, a lookout tower has already been established with EU support on Mařenka Hill, which was opened in the autumn of 2012. This year, a lookout tower will also be constructed on Fajtův Hill in Velké Meziříčí. There are expected to be eleven of them in the Vysočina region.
