Uherské Hradiště - The Uherskohradišťská City Hall has selected two designs for the future renovation of the former Jesuit college building in the city center. A comprehensive reconstruction will result in a cultural and educational center, said Deputy Mayor Hana Doupovcová to reporters. The center will serve not only local residents but also visitors, thus gaining a regional character.

The city approached six companies, and four of them submitted proposals. The chosen two companies proposed various architectural solutions, the content of the center, and also financing models. The city discussed all architectural studies several times in expert commissions and also in public discussions. "In the end, we prioritized two proposals, and we will now negotiate the conditions for developing the conceptual plan with their authors," specified Doupovcová.
Architects proposed, for the historical building which is over 300 years old, multifunctional halls, educational spaces, cafes, and also information tourist centers. Some of them, according to the Deputy Mayor, also suggested expanding accommodation capacities in the building, which are still insufficient in the city.
Local architect Michal Kutálek proposed creating a permanent exhibition in the building that would map the history of the city. Other companies came up with the idea of creating an exhibition about the Morava River. Among the interesting features in the proposals were various methods of roofing the courtyard. The architects differed primarily in the proposed use of various materials, with some preferring glass or modern plastic materials.
The renovation of the building is estimated to require costs of approximately 200 million crowns. "We expect that for such a large project we can draw financial grants from European funds," noted the councilor. According to Doupovcová, the building currently does not serve the purpose for which it was intended historically. It currently houses service establishments, such as a dry cleaner, photographer, or picture framing shop. The complex of Jesuit buildings from the 17th and 18th centuries is one of the most significant cultural monuments and landmarks of Masaryk Square in the center of Uherské Hradiště. In addition to the Jesuit college, there is also the parish church of St. Francis Xavier. The church is adjacent to the building of the high school with a theater hall, known as the Reduta, which was reopened in 2001 after an expensive reconstruction.
