Šlapanice - This afternoon, the eastern part of the wall around the garden and park at Budenice Castle in Kladno collapsed, and the incident occurred without any injuries. The debris covered approximately 20 meters of the adjacent road between Slaný and Budyní nad Ohří, which had to be completely closed for three hours. Police redirected traffic on site, firefighters cleared the rubble, and temporarily secured the tilted sections of the wall. An inspection showed that almost half of the wall, with a total length of 300 meters, is unstable, and its demolition will likely be necessary, said Vladimíra Kereková, spokeswoman for the Central Bohemian firefighters, to ČTK today.
The incident was reported at 14:00. Firefighters received assistance in clearing the collapsed masonry from a loader that the village mayor organized. Thanks to this, it was possible to remove the debris from the road and push it to the sides. Firefighters also brought a container with timber for the temporary securing of the tilted sections of the wall. A representative from the building authority was also invited to the site, as a decision on the demolition of the remaining parts of the wall will likely need to be issued.
Budenice Castle is a former Baroque noble residence, whose construction on the site of an older fortress began in the late 17th and early 18th centuries. It is surrounded by a park that connects to an avenue leading from Zlonice. The castle has a private owner and is not open to the public.
