From September 12 to 16, 2107, as part of the public space festival TUTO MĚSTO, six teams of architects and landscape designers will visit Plzeň. With the help of local volunteers, they will implement their design proposals for several locations in the public space that they created during a spring planning workshop. Through small interventions, they will improve Školní and Chodské squares, the space at the intersection of Kollárovy and Kovářské streets, the area under the Milenia bridge, the earth mound near Ježíšek, and the plateau “Na májce” in Bukovec. The accompanying program will offer several lecture evenings, but primarily a concluding neighborhood celebration at all the renovated locations. The purpose of the festival, which takes place thanks to support from the grant program of Plzeňský Prazdroj PRAZDROJ LIDEM, is to enhance the public space in Plzeň and show citizens that they can influence its appearance themselves. “We have been addressing this topic for the long term. Since 2012, residents of Plzeň have been adding their ideas for improving their surroundings to the Open Call Grow Space that we announce. We then help implement the best of them,” says Marek Sivák, chairman of the Grow Space association. “We believe that the festival format for implementing improvements we chose this year will attract even more attention to public spaces. We have also invited leading Czech experts to help us – landscape architect Vladimír Sitta, sculptor Kurt Gebauer, and architect Jiří Zábrana,” he adds.
