Trutnov - The Trutnov Town Hall has received a grant from the National Recovery Plan (NPO) amounting to 68.85 million crowns for the reconstruction of the Vesmír cinema, estimated at 115 million crowns. The reconstruction is in its final phase, city representatives informed ČTK today. The renovation of the heritage-protected cinema building from 1928 began in the summer of 2021 and is expected to be completed by the turn of spring and summer this year.
"I am glad that we have succeeded with the grant application. It is evident that the grant project for the Reconstruction of the Vesmír cinema focused on international cooperation appealed to the evaluators and received deserved support," stated the mayor of Trutnov, Michal Rosa (ODS).
The most significant change compared to the situation before the current reconstruction will be the creation of two screening rooms. The cinema will have new seats, sound system, and a new façade.
"A significant part of the installations is completed, and construction work has advanced to the plastering and flooring stages. The frameworks for cladding and ceiling tiles are also finished, so it is starting to become clear how the building will operate. The outlines of a completely new small hall on the second floor are also taking shape. At the same time, we are in the final phase of preserving the original structures, which involves the repair of the historic ceiling of the hall," Rosa added.
The new design of the Vesmír cinema includes two screening rooms. The large one will have a capacity of 256 seats, and the smaller one, primarily intended for art screenings, will accommodate up to 39 viewers. There will be refreshments in the entrance hall, and the capacity of the restrooms will be increased. Thanks to the barrier-free solution, the cinema will also be comfortably accessible to people with disabilities.
The reconstruction of the Vesmír cinema, which began in June 2021, has been prolonged. It was originally expected to last a year, but according to the city hall management, delays occurred due to unexpected complications, primarily caused by unprofessional modifications from the 1970s. "All complications have been resolved; however, they resulted in an extension of the entire reconstruction by nearly a year, and consequently an increase in costs," stated Jan Seidel, the secretary of the city office.
Initially, the projected amount was 97.5 million crowns; now, the total costs are approximately 115 million crowns.
The repair of the Trutnov cinema is one of three projects in the Hradec Králové region that the Ministry of Culture has decided to support. A total of 164 million crowns has been allocated for projects in the region. The Hradec Králové region also received another grant from the NPO for the reconstruction of the Vrbenské barracks in the center of Hradec Králové amounting to 55 million crowns and also for Villa Čerych in Česká Skalice in the Náchod region, which received nearly 40 million.
