Brno - The pedestrian path Zouvalka on the left bank of the Brno dam will be safer after reconstruction. The city council of Brno today selected the company Ekostavby Brno for the work. The construction will cost more than 17.8 million crowns. The work will begin in March, stated the mayor of Brno, Markéta Vaňková (ODS), at today's press conference.

According to the mayor, the sidewalk is in poor condition and pedestrians in both directions pass through dangerous areas. "The path is too narrow; its width is determined only by the current topographical possibilities. Along the entire length of the path, the sidewalk is steep and sits on the edge of a steep slope leading to the Brno dam," said Vaňková.

The path goes through the natural and geological area of the protected natural park Podkomorské lesy. The adjustments concern the section from the footbridge under the Veveří Castle through Zouvalka to the path leading behind the unnamed watercourse towards the boat stop Cyklistická and further to the restaurant U Šuláka.

"In the steepest sections of the sidewalk, steps made of steel footbridges with wooden walking surfaces and wooden railings are proposed. The construction will be created by adding a layer of crushed gravel with a layer of small stone laid on the surface," stated the councilor for investments, David Grund (ODS). The sidewalk will be widened to two meters and is planned to measure 825 meters.

The construction work will last until June. "The construction should be completed by the beginning of the summer season," said Vaňková.
