Tišnov - The leadership of Tišnov in the Brno region will repair the interior of the former Květnice hotel building in the square. The city owns the property, which it has rented out since the 1990s. After the reconstruction, which is expected to cost between 60 to 80 million crowns, there will be offices instead of rooms on the top floor, which the city will offer to doctors. In the other floors, there will continue to be offices, a restaurant, and a tourist information center. This was stated by the deputy mayor of Tišnov, Karel Souček (ODS).
"Currently, the outer part of the building has been fully reconstructed, especially the façade and roofing. The interior of the building is not in extremely poor condition, but because of an unsuitable extension in the 1980s or 1990s, it has problems with moisture, and some roof structures have leaked. In addition to these necessary investments, we are planning a complete reconstruction of the interior, including all installations, new elevators, reconstruction of floors, and demolition of some partition walls," said Souček.
The last major reconstruction was carried out by the Brno company Ekostavby in the 1990s, which then operated the hotel and later rented it to another tenant. However, that tenant gradually converted the hotel into accommodation for construction workers, which the city leadership disagreed with and terminated the contract five years ago. Apart from the information center and rented office space, the building is empty; in the last floor, Tišnov accommodated Ukrainian families fleeing the war last year. Some have returned to Ukraine, while others have become independent or the city will relocate them elsewhere.
The biggest change is the transformation of the top floor from accommodation capacities to offices. "Since the elections, we have been thinking about what to do with the hotel building next. The city did not want to operate the hotel, as it would mean looking for a new operator. Now we have presented a plan to the representatives at a working meeting to convert the upper floor into offices for doctors. There is a shortage of office space in Tišnov," said Souček. However, he stated that this adjustment of the space does not prevent the return of hotel operations in the future. "We keep in mind that our successors may want to return hotel operations to the building. The goal of the reconstruction is to make it possible without major construction modifications," added Souček. The estimated costs for remediation and reconstruction are between 60 to 80 million crowns.
Now, it is necessary to have the study revised according to the new plan, and then the intention must be approved by the council. The city will also begin exploring options for obtaining a grant for the reconstruction. The aim is to complete the entire repair ideally by September 2024, and at the latest by the end of 2024. At that time, the reconstruction of the square will also begin.
The Květnice hotel building was built in 1909 in the Art Nouveau style. The ground floor of the building housed a restaurant, the first floor housed the Contributory Bank, and the top floor was the hotel. In the 1950s, both the hotel operation and the restaurant were closed, and the building served as the headquarters for the Communist Party. The spaces returned to their original function in the 1960s. The building is a protected monument.
