Prague - The walls of the building at the corner of Wenceslas Square and Opletalova Street, which is designated for demolition, began to be demolished today in the morning according to findings from ČTK by an excavator. To limit dust, debris is being sprayed with streams of water. In previous days, workers removed the roof.
Demolition work started on April 15 and according to the latest information from the owner, the company Flow East, it will last approximately three months.
The first to disappear is the side wall of the building on Opletalova Street; scaffolding has been erected on the street side and the building is covered with a tarp. In the latest statement, the company mentioned that the first six weeks will be focused on demolishing the building itself, while the remaining six weeks will be used to clear the debris from the site.
The developer then plans to build a glass building on the site of the house, against which a part of the public, as well as experts, protested the demolition. The new building is also intended to occupy almost the entire courtyard behind the Jalta hotel, which is also owned by Flow East. The facility will have nine above-ground and three underground floors. According to the company, the project costs reach up to a billion crowns.
