Kutná Hora - The renovated pilgrimage site Svatá Hora in Příbram received the main award in the Construction of the Year competition for the Central Bohemia Region 2016. The governor's award went to the railway bridge in Poděbrady, while the public voted the most for the home for the elderly in Uhlířské Janovice in the Kutná Hora region. The results of the competition were announced today at the Central Bohemian Gallery in Kutná Hora.
The impressive Svatá Hora site with its baroque monastery complex, cloisters, and chapels is the main monument of Příbram. Its renovation cost 190 million crowns, most of which was covered by the EU. The work began last May and lasted until the end of the year, involving primarily the repairs of the buildings' outer shell and roofs, which were nearing the end of their lifespan.
The expert jury also awarded seven special prizes. The award for the best reconstruction of a heritage site also went to Svatá Hora, while the best investment project was the adaptation of the Máj department store in Kralupy nad Vltavou into a town hall, according to the judges. The award for a building financed by the region or its contribution organizations was awarded to the home for the elderly in Uhlířské Janovice.
The prize for transportation infrastructure went to the railway bridge in Poděbrady, and the award for the building that best enhances the cultural values of the landscape or surrounding development went to the Beroun ceramics museum. The tourist center in Kralupy was recognized for the best execution of public space, and the international research center ELI in Dolní Břežany near Prague received a special prize for the structural and technical solution of the building's construction.
