The Building of the Year for the Liberec Region is a renovated house from Liberec

Liberec - The Building of the Year for the Liberec Region in 2015 became the reconstruction of the U Páva House in the center of Liberec. The expert jury was impressed by the connection of the historical part with the modern extension. This was stated to ČTK by the chairman of the jury, Vít Příkaský.

"Many historicizing elements have been preserved and successfully combined with modern ones. This rarely happens," Příkaský stated.
The three-story Neoclassical house marked with a peacock served partly for residential purposes and partly for commercial purposes in the past. Its somewhat older courtyard wing was one of the oldest dyeing and spinning mills in Liberec. However, due to its poor condition, it has not survived. Today, the renovated house on 8th March Street houses the offices of lawyers and designers.
The repair that lasted a year and a half saved the building. "We bought it in poor condition. In the old part, the perimeter walls remained, while the rest was reconstructed or renewed," said co-owner Jiří Pavlů. The staircases, ceilings, and the exterior facade regained their original appearance. After the renovation, the house connects two architectural styles. The first is from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries from the so-called Liebieg era, while the second represents a modern structure in the courtyard block made of glass, iron, aluminum, and concrete. The reconstruction of the house cost 23 million crowns.
The competition for the building of the year took place for the eleventh time this year in the Liberec Region. The purpose of the competition is to inform both professionals and the general public about the level of construction, architecture, and design in the past year within the region. Other buildings also received awards today, with the most votes from the public going to the restoration of the viewing terrace at the chapel of the rock castle Vranov in Malá Skála in the Jablonec area. Awards from the expert jury in individual categories were also given to the heliport at the Regional Hospital in Liberec, a newly built kindergarten in Turnov, and the construction of road I/35 from Bílý Kostel to Hrádek nad Nisou.
