Litoměřice - The construction of an eleven-meter tower for bike parking in Litoměřice has been postponed. The city council canceled the tender for the construction contractor, so cyclists will have to wait until May next year for parking in the glass tower. Eva Břeňová, the spokesperson for the town hall, told ČTK today. Originally, the so-called bike tower was supposed to be available to cyclists traversing the Czech central mountains this September.

The reason for reissuing the tender, according to the town hall, is due to ambiguities and differing legal interpretations by the grant provider regarding the conducted procurement proceedings. "However, Litoměřice will not forfeit the grant, which covers 90 percent of the costs estimated at 12 million crowns," emphasized Venuše Brunclíková, head of the urban development department of the city office. The grant was obtained from the Integrated Regional Operational Program.

The parking tower with a self-service system will be located next to the Czech Railways (ČD) building on land that is property of the city. There is a bus and train station nearby, as well as the historic center. Since the tower cannot exceed the height of the neighboring ČD building, it will be partially embedded in the ground.

The parking facility will accommodate up to 118 bikes. The tower will feature an automatic self-service system. A cyclist will ride their bike onto a platform, pay a five-crown fee or another symbolic amount per day, and an elevator will transport and store their bike in the designated compartment, a process that takes about half a minute. There will also be a charger available for electric bikes.
