The construction of the lookout tower on Fajtův Hill near Velké Meziříčí will begin in the spring

Velké Meziříčí (Žďársko) - The local Ski Club plans to start the construction of a new lookout tower on Fajtův Kopec next spring. The original tower in the shape of a helix, 36 meters high, is expected to be completed within a year, club chairman Jiří Novotný told ČTK today. The project, valued at around nine million crowns, is promised to be subsidized by the union.
    "Currently, the construction is at a very early stage. We are starting with the preparation of the implementation project, which is necessary for organizing the tender," Novotný said. The club aims to select a construction company to build the lookout tower by the end of the year.
    The idea for the lookout tower was proposed by the Velké Meziříčí Ski Club several years ago. They already operate a popular ski slope on Fajtův Kopec and a bike park in the summer. The final design of the lookout tower was chosen by people voting online. The winning design by architect Václav Hlaváček features a helix-shaped tower.
    According to Novotný, the design of the lookout tower received great acclaim and its author received offers, even from abroad, for its realization. "However, we were fortunate that the architect decided to keep this project for Fajtův Kopec," the chairman stated.
    Last year, the city temporarily took charge of the project and also applied for a grant through the European Regional Operational Program. However, it later turned out that the city had a chance for a grant of only up to 40 percent of the costs. The ski club has now received over five million CZK, which represents support amounting to 60 percent of the costs.
    In the Vysočina Region, a lookout tower was already built last year with union support, specifically in the Třebíč area. A 31-meter-high tower was opened on Mařenka Hill in the fall. The project, costing seven million CZK, was taken care of by the surrounding municipalities. This year, besides the Velké Meziříčí Ski Club, the city of Třebíč also received a grant for a new lookout tower.
