Prague – This year, the State Award for Literature was awarded to forty-one-year-old writer Kateřina Tučková. The jury recognized her for her novel Bílá Voda and also considered her previous literary work, which opens up little-known historical and social topics and helps to make them accessible to the public. The laureate of the State Award for Translational Work was the Romanist Jiří Našinec, especially for his translations of Charles Nodier and Mircea Eliade, as well as for his versatile contribution to the popularization of Romanian literature. The Ministry of Culture's award was also given to six other personalities of Czech culture during today's festive evening at the New Stage of the National Theatre.
"I am convinced that today's award ceremony of the Ministry of Culture once again shows the strength, great ability, and international - in the good sense of the word - comparability and competitiveness of our culture," stated Minister of Culture Martin Baxa (ODS) at the opening of the festive evening.
In architecture, the award was given to Jiří Suchomel for his pioneering work in the field of sustainable architecture and for founding, leading, and developing the current Faculty of Art and Architecture at the Technical University of Liberec. The award for fine arts was received by gallerist Marek Pokorný for his significant critical, curatorial, and managerial activity in contemporary art, as well as for his initiative in creating and developing progressive cultural institutions and platforms.
