Prague - The Railway Administration has obtained a valid building permit for the modernization of Masaryk Station in Prague. The spokesperson for the Railway Administration, Nela Eberl Friebová, announced this today to ČTK. In spring, a tender for the contractor will be announced, and construction work is expected to begin later this year. It is set to be completed in 2026. Estimated costs were set at 2.5 billion crowns in December. The project includes expanding the existing number of tracks from seven to nine, reconstructing all platforms, and building a new platform above the tracks, which will eliminate barriers in the area, allow access to individual platforms, and offer a direct transfer to metro line B.

The station will feature six barrier-free platforms. The track layout, all technologies, traction power supply, and feeding will be reconstructed. Builders will work during operation, with only partial operational restrictions corresponding to the individual phases of the project's implementation being necessary.

Masaryk Station is located right in the center of Prague and is the third busiest station on the Czech railway. The goal of the extensive modifications planned by the Railway Administration is to bring passengers comfort that meets modern standards. In particular, the number of platforms and tracks will be increased, and the station will be urbanistically integrated into its surroundings. The new platform will especially benefit future airport trains. The removal of barriers in the area will be ensured by the new platform above the tracks. It will connect not only Florenc with Hybernská Street and Masaryk Station with the main station but also provide a new vestibule for waiting passengers. Escalators, stairs, and elevators will lead directly to individual platforms from there. A part of the platform will be planted with greenery, creating a peaceful oasis right in the city center.

The reconstruction of Masaryk Station is part of the modernization of the railway from the center of Prague to Kladno. It is divided into several phases. Last year, work began on two sections, specifically from Kladno to Kladno-Ostrovce and on the line between the Prague-Bubny station and the future new stop, Prague-Výstaviště.
