Chrudim - Three phases of reconstruction and extension of the sports hall, construction of a hotel, and a parking garage in Chrudim will cost around 350 million crowns. The city has been renovating the sports hall since this year, with further phases set to begin at the earliest in 2026. However, they must first be approved by the council members. This was stated to reporters today by Councilor Aleš Nunvář (Pirates).

The city took over the sports hall in 2010 from the Sokol Gymnastic Unit, which did not have the funds for repairs. The hall on Tyršovo náměstí is the only one in the entire city and provides sports opportunities for both sports clubs and some schools.

Since January, the construction company has been renovating the main hall and building an extension for a new gym, reconstructing the changing rooms, and activating the entrance from Opletalova Street. It is expected to be completed in August of next year, with costs amounting to 103 million crowns.

A construction study for the next phases has been completed. In the next phase, the city plans to repair the Sporthotel, the entrance passage, and the entire Sokolovna. Heritage protection officials have authorized the demolition of the Sporthotel and the construction of a new hotel facility. It will have a modern appearance. There will also be a parking garage with underground garages at Michalské náměstí.

“Working with the heritage officials on the architectural design was very creative. The design features the historical appearance of Tyrš's house. To my delight, the heritage officials did not insist on preserving the Sporthotel, which was originally historical but was so damaged during communism that not much of the original remains. Therefore, the corner hotel building can be demolished and a new, modern, and taller one can be built,” said Nunvář.

The parking garage will have three floors and a capacity of 191 parking spaces. There is a proposed playground on the roof. “The estimated investment cost is 200 million crowns excluding VAT, which is more than originally anticipated. During the design process, the demands of the sports clubs increased, and the parking garage was not initially planned. It will be well-utilized for the area,” Nunvář said.

The project documentation for the second and third phases will be completed by the end of 2025, and construction could begin the following year, pending approval from the council members. “This is a long-term project that we want to complete. The parking garage will be atypical, with an underground level, which I insisted on. It will be accessible by elevator and will have spaces for residents. I would have preferred a more historical style for the hotel, but then the architect proposed a modern one,” said Mayor František Pilný (ANO).
