Břeclav - The renovation of the ceremonial hall at the Jewish cemetery in Břeclav is coming to an end. The city has had the monument, which had been deteriorating for decades, repaired for more than 22 million crowns excluding VAT. Břeclav received an 11 million crown grant for the renovation through cooperation with the Slovak town of Sládkovičovo from the Interreg cross-border cooperation program. The city administration informed about it on the website.

The hall was built in 1892 by the Jewish Kuffner family. "The reconstruction of a historical object is always very challenging. The company that carried it out had a very short time for the work. That is why I value even more that everything we agreed upon was accomplished," stated the mayor of Břeclav, Svatopluk Pěček (ANO).

During the renovation, it was necessary to coordinate with experts to achieve the most accurate shades of stained glass, stones, or wood. Craftsmen repaired the damaged vault, stucco decoration, and the roof with ceramic tiles and decorative dormers. The brick facade of the building from 1892 has been cleaned and is free of climbing plants.

People will be able to see the renovated monument in the spring; the building must dry out after the restorers' interventions, and landscaping around it must also be completed. The Slovak town of Sládkovičovo, as part of the collaboration on the project In Eternal Memory of the Kuffners in Moravia and Slovakia, has landscaped the castle park.

The Kuffner family was a business-oriented family of Austro-Hungarian and later Austrian, Slovak, and Czech Jewish faith. The Kuffners were primarily active in Břeclav, from where they originated. The most significant member was the first Jewish mayor of Břeclav, sugar manufacturer Hermann Kuffner, who was elevated to nobility in 1900. The second branch of the Kuffner family, represented by Karl Kuffner, operated in today's Slovak Sládkovičovo, where the historical sugar factory, family tomb, and church stand.
