Rožnov pod Radhoštěm (Vsetínsko) - The town hall in Rožnov pod Radhoštěm wants to prepare a project in collaboration with the Slovak town of Myjava that would map the traces of Slovak architect Dušan Jurkovič in Rožnov, said Tomáš Gross, spokesperson for the Rožnov town hall, today. Jurkovič was born in Myjava in 1868. In the town beneath the Radhošť peak, there is already a lookout tower built according to Jurkovič's design, as well as excursion lodges Maměnka and Libušín at Pustevny on Radhošť. The mayor of Rožnov, Markéta Blinková (ODS), has already discussed this with the leadership of Myjava. "We are preparing a project for the restoration of spa paths connected with information about the history of Rožnov as well as about Jurkovič and his lookout tower, which stands on Karlův Hill near the Wallachian Open Air Museum," Blinková stated, adding that the cross-border cooperation project could also include concerts of Junior Beskydy music and folklore ensembles in Myjava and vice versa. According to Gross, the project costs should not exceed 650,000 crowns, with 85 percent being covered by a European grant if the support is obtained. The project must be submitted by the end of January. "We could receive information about potential approval within three months, so if we receive support, we are counting on implementing the activities this year," the mayor noted. Jurkovič was a prominent representative of Art Nouveau architecture. He created a distinctive style, significantly influenced by folk architecture. His unique collections of buildings also decorate the spa town of Luhačovice in the Zlín region.
