Brno - Workers in Brno are completing the reconstruction of the Rondo hall, which serves both sports fans and lovers of large concerts. The results of the work were presented to journalists by the city leadership today. The total costs for the modifications of Rondo amount to 400 million crowns and were financed in two phases by the city. The hall is already used for training by the extraleague hockey players of Brno's Kometa. The replacement of seats has been completed, with 4,200 new ones installed. The scoreboard, on which fans can follow the progress of hockey matches, has also been reinstalled. According to Ivan Valouch from the construction company Imos, only details such as cleaning and painting remain to be finished. The first friendly match in Rondo will be played by the Kometa hockey players on August 12, and they will start the new extraleague season at home in mid-September. During the extensive reconstruction, the engineering networks, including sewage systems, have been completely repaired and replaced. Furthermore, craftsmen replaced the technological equipment of the building, installed new air conditioning, and reconstructed all facilities including changing rooms and V.I.P. spaces. The steel structure has been repainted, and the acoustic ceilings have been entirely replaced. New accommodation facilities have been added for athletes and performers, which were previously missing. New elevator communications are also part of the renovations. Even after the reconstruction, the Rondo hall still has the same seating capacity. It primarily hosts the home games of Kometa Brno in the extraleague of ice hockey, which have been among the most visited in a nationwide comparison. Repairs began last summer and continued even during the hockey season. Builders and hockey players had to adapt to each other. According to the architect of the hall, Ivan Ruller, the city took on the reconstruction at the right time. "At one point, the need to create an environment for hockey in Brno coincided with the dilapidation of the hall, which is undergoing a certain renaissance," Ruller said. The social facilities of the building and refreshments for the spectators were particularly disastrous, according to him. "The hall finally has everything it needs. In my opinion, the investment costs were acceptable," Ruller stated. The foundation stone of the Rondo hall was laid by builders in 1972 on the site of an open ice rink. Construction originally began as part of Action Z, and it was done in phases. There was a lack of funds for the completion for a long time. For a certain period, only its unique steel skeleton remained standing. The ceremonial opening took place ten years later on the occasion of the World Bowling Championship. Since then, Rondo has not undergone any major repairs. Only now is the hall receiving a final intervention, according to architect Ruller, that will last long enough.
