For the Brno villa Tugendhat, last year was extraordinarily successful

Brno - The year 2022 was extremely successful for the Brno functionalist villa Tugendhat, which is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site. More than 30,000 people visited it, with 40% of them being foreigners. "This is the ceiling; attendance cannot increase any further," said Iveta Černá, the head of the property's administration, to ČTK.
    The villa was reopened in April 2012 after a renovation costing 174 million crowns. Its management anticipated a strong interest in tours, which would gradually decline. According to Černá, this has not happened. Many people who do not book tickets in advance are unable to enter.
    “Before the Christmas holidays, we began selling tickets for this year. A thousand have already been sold. Some spring weekends are already fully booked,” Černá mentioned. She noted that there is still significant interest in tours from foreign visitors, particularly from Austria.
    Interested parties can reserve entry to the villa on the website www.tugendhat.eu. The villa will be closed for a week in April for facade repainting.
    The villa is the most famous functionalist villa in Brno. Experts describe it as a work that introduced new elements into modern architecture. It is made from the highest quality materials. One wall, behind which there is a view of Brno, is made of glass and can be opened in the summer. The villa was built for the industrialist Tugendhat family, who fled due to their Jewish heritage before World War II. The villa is owned by the city of Brno.
    On Tuesday, the renovation of the Art Nouveau Löw-Beer villa was completed at a cost of more than 60 million crowns. The house adjacent to the Tugendhat villa was home to the parents of Greta Tugendhat, co-owner of the Tugendhat villa. The Löw-Beer villa will be open to the public in the first half of this year.
