Přerov - The city hall in Přerov may start constructing the Tyršův bridge over the Morava River next year, a project the city has been planning for several years. The construction of the bridge has been delayed by public opposition to the originally winning design advocated by the former city leadership. Its current leadership has now approved the development of project documentation in the form that was favored by the public in a survey. This was stated to journalists today by Deputy Mayor Josef Kulíšek.

The original winner of the architectural-urban planning competition envisaged a modern bridge with a cable structure. This variant was opposed not only by residents and conservationists but also by ornithologists. They argued that the cables would become a deadly trap for birds living in the area.
The new city leadership decided to create the bridge according to the design by the Prague Architectural Office of Alena Šrámková, which finished second in the competition. "The bridge will be simple. It will be possible to adorn it with sculptures and equip it with benches or stalls. It will serve pedestrians and possibly one-way traffic," said Kulíšek.
The construction of the bridge is estimated to cost 60 to 70 million crowns. The city hall will try to obtain a grant for the investment from the Regional Operational Program or the state budget. "If we succeed, the implementation will begin next year," added the deputy mayor.
The new Tyršův bridge is expected to replace the current footbridge connecting the banks of the Bečva River, which is already in very poor condition.
