Prague - The City Council will discuss an exception to the construction ban for Letná Plain and Letná Gardens at its Tuesday meeting. The Czech Olympic Committee (ČOV) requested it due to the construction of the Letná Winter Olympic Park. The construction department of the Prague City Hall has already issued a favorable opinion on the exception, stated Prague City Hall spokesman Jakub Stadler today.

The construction of the Olympic Park, where fans will be able to watch the struggles of Czech athletes on large screens and also use some of the sports facilities, began on Tuesday. However, the construction office began examining today whether the construction is legal. Construction is prohibited on Letná Plain. If the office finds any irregularities, it could order the removal of the building.
Organizers insist that the construction of the complex is in order. "We have all the necessary documents and permits. We are not worried that we will have to interrupt the construction," said ČTK spokesman of the Czech Olympic Committee, Alexandr Kliment. He claims to have a land lease, an exception from green area protection and vehicle entry, agreement with the intention of the City Council, or the mayor's patronage. According to Kliment, the ČOV does not need a construction permit due to the nature of the buildings.
"I add that we are not digging into the ground and we are acting as considerately as possible towards the greenery. Everything will be returned to its original state after the event. We are responsible neighbors. Residents of Prague 7 will have free access," Kliment stated.
The construction office of Prague 7, according to the spokesman of the seventh city district, Martin Vokuš, has scheduled a site inspection for today. "Based on the findings, a representative of the organizer will be invited for an oral discussion, during which all documents related to the construction of the Olympic Park that the organizers have should also be presented. Subsequently, a decision will be made about further action," Vokuš noted.
The Olympic Park Sochi - Letná 2014 is expected to be ready by February 6, the day before the Winter Olympic Games begin in Sochi, Russia. The complex will feature two hockey rinks, a large skating ice surface, a curling field, and a laser shooting range for biathlon. During the Olympics, attractions will be available to children in the morning. In the afternoon, large screens and information displays will take precedence, and fans will also be able to ask athletes in Sochi questions via teleconferencing.
