Prague has selected the design for the planned residential building in Smíchov
Prague – The contribution organization of the capital city, Prague Development Company (PDS), has selected the design of an apartment building that the city plans to build on land between Štefánikova, V Botanice, and Matoušova streets in Prague 5. Based on an architectural competition, it will be designed by the Prague studio Atelier bod architekti. Markéta Miková, the media representative of PDS, informed CTK about this in a press release. The winning team is now preparing the project documentation. The building is to have 56 rental apartments.
The city-owned land where the building is to be constructed is located in Smíchov between the Komerční banka building and Portheimka. The winning design includes six standard floors and one recessed floor, and according to the project manager of PDS, Rastislav Tomaščík, it fits in height and materials used within the surrounding development.
"From a professional perspective, I particularly appreciate the overall solution of the project, which will serve as a connector between two opposing buildings, such as the Baroque Portheimka and the pyramid-shaped bank of Karel Prager. The city rental apartments V Botanice will be intended for preferred professions that ensure the operation and services of the city or single mothers. There will be shops and services on the ground floor of the building," said the deputy mayor Petr Hlaváček (for TOP 09).
PDS was established by the city two years ago to prepare housing projects on city-owned land. The city authority entrusted it with the management of 683,000 m² of parcels with a current market value of approximately 4.3 billion crowns. The organization is currently preparing constructions at more than a dozen locations in the metropolis, where up to 8,000 city rental apartments may be built in the future. For some smaller projects, a designer has already been selected, and for others, PDS has announced tenders or architectural competitions. The building in Prague 5 is the first architectural competition whose results PDS has announced so far.
