Prague - The project documentation for the long-planned modifications to Kavalírka Park in Košíře will be created for the Prague 5 municipality by the studio Jakub Cigler Architekti for approximately 2.4 million crowns including VAT. This is indicated by a resolution from the local council. The studio will take over the project preparation from the company KOOA, with which the municipality terminated the contract last year due to repeated failures to deliver the project on time. Work could begin at the end of next year, said Radek Janoušek, a councilor for the municipality, to ČTK (Prague 5 for Itself).
According to the councilor, the original architect was supposed to submit documentation incorporating the comments from the municipality and the local association, which owns part of the land, last summer. "Given that he did not submit it even after prompts and in a supplementary deadline, we terminated the contract," said Janoušek. According to him, the deadline for submission was extended twice in the past.
The modifications to the park on Pod Kavalírkou Street will, according to the councilor, consist of overall improvements and enhancements to the environment for residents. "Today, the condition of the park is quite outdated," he stated. He added that in addition to green space improvements while preserving as many existing mature trees as possible, the modifications will include smaller sports facilities, a children's playground, and new benches. "I would like us to start by the end of next year and have the project completed by 2026," Janoušek added.
To save the park, where a development project was previously planned, a local residents' association was established in 2006. The municipality purchased the land from private owners a few years ago, and part of the transaction included that a smaller portion is owned by the local association. The municipality paid 20.4 million crowns for the plots, and the association contributed another 1.1 million.
At the end of last year, Prague 5 completed the revitalization of Mrázovka Park for approximately 40 million crowns. In Malvazinky, it plans to build a park this year in the Na Pláni area, which was also previously designated for development, but was abandoned due to local residents' opposition.
