Prague - A group of amateur divers retrieved a painting from the bottom of the Orlík Reservoir, which belongs to the National Gallery. The artwork, created during the period of normalization, was submerged in October by members of the artistic group Rafani. The painting, which was placed in a special airtight container, returned to the National Gallery almost undamaged. This was reported today by television Nova.

Rafani accessed the painting by artist Magdalena Cubrová, titled On the Edge of the Pit, through the Brno House of Art. Its management was asked to loan the piece from the National Gallery for their installation in an exhibition called Between Our Groups II. The group chose the work because they discovered it was one of three paintings managed by the National Gallery that had never been loaned out for an exhibition. After "drowning" the painting, the police suspected Rafani of damaging someone else's property.
Rafani are known for shocking with their artistic projects. In the past, during one event, they even defecated in the National Gallery. At another event, they set fire to a photocopy of the state flag. However, critics and theorists appreciate them.
