Prague - After 1989, several dozen churches were newly built in the Czech Republic. By far the most are Roman Catholic, which primarily emerged in Moravia and Silesia. The Evangelical and Brethren churches also introduced new churches after 1989.

Selection of information about newly built churches after 1989 for the 20th anniversary of the consecration of the Roman Catholic Church of the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary in Prague's Strašnice on June 17, 1994:

- The Church of the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary in Prague's Strašnice, with a hyperbolic paraboloid-shaped roof, was built between 1992 and 1994 in 19 months. The unusual design of the church was created by architect Jindřich Synek, who also reconstructed several sacred buildings.

- According to experts, modern churches have a slightly different focus than before. They serve much more as community centers, for example, they have cinema halls, club rooms, or cafés. Especially in housing estates, where public infrastructure is usually lacking, they serve as places where people meet not only during services.

- In the Olomouc Archdiocese, for example, the modern Church of the Holy Family in Luhačovice in Zlín Region was built from 1996 to 1997, or in 2003, the Church of the Virgin Mary Help of Christians in Zlín's South Sides. In 2017, the Church of Saint Wenceslas was consecrated in the village of Sazovice in Zlín District, its cylindrical shape inspired by rotundas from the time of Saint Wenceslas.

- In the Brno Diocese, for instance, the Church of the Virgin Mary Queen was completed in 2004 in Hrušovany near Brno, four years later the Church of the Holy Spirit in Šumná in Znojmo, or the modernly conceived pilgrimage church of God's Mercy and Saint Faustina in Slavkovice near Nové Město na Moravě in Žďár Region.

- In the Moravian metropolis itself, the Church of the Virgin Mary Help of Christians was already established in 1995 in the Žabovřesky housing estate. Its construction was initiated by the Salesians of Don Bosco. Since 2017, the Church of Blessed Mary Restituta in Brno-Lesná has been under construction, reminiscent of a rotunda with a separate triangular tower.

- Among the more significant new churches in the Ostrava-Opava Diocese are the pilgrimage Church of the Virgin Mary Help in Zlaté Hory near Bruntál from 1995, one of the largest new church buildings with a prominent 48-meter tall tower, the Church of Christ the Good Shepherd in Hněvošice in Opava from 1996, the tear-shaped Church of Saint Barbara in Loučky nad Olší in Karviná from 2000, or the Church of the Holy Spirit in Ostrava-Výškovice from 2007.

- In the Prague Archdiocese, besides the church in Strašnice, the Church of Saint Elizabeth was built in 2004 in Prague-Kbely, shaped like an ellipse, intended to remind of a loaf of bread, from which a part was cut off and given away. In May 2007, a new church and Community Center of Mother Teresa was opened in the Jižní Město housing estate. A similar but smaller facility for cultural, spiritual, and social activities was previously established in the west of the metropolis in Nové Butovice. And last November, construction began on the new Church of Christ the Savior with a community center in Prague's Barrandov. Completion is planned for September 2020.

- In November 2000, for example, the Church of Saint Charles Borromeo was opened in Písek, designed in the shape of a six-pointed star; in Plzeň Region, the Trappist monastery of Our Lady in Nové Dvory near Toužim was completed in 2004, and in the Hradec Králové Diocese, an architecturally daring ecumenical Church of God's Love was consecrated in 2004 in Budislav near Litomyšl, carved into the rock.

- In 2003, the Evangelical Congregational House was established in Letohrad in the Orlickoústeck Region. The Brethren Church opened the Bethel (House of God) in Poděbrady in 2007, followed by a church reminiscent of Noah's Ark in Černošice in November 2010, and a church in Litomyšl with alternating sloped roofs a month later.
