Plzeň - The reconstruction of the city football stadium in Plzeň's Štruncovy sady will begin in May. The city will allocate 195 million crowns for this project this year. The reconstruction will be spread over three years and will require a total of 357 million crowns. The financing model discussed today by the councilors must still be approved by the representatives on January 27.

"From the budget, we have set aside more than 71 million crowns, 24 million will be covered by improved tax revenues from the city and districts, and we will obtain 100 million crowns by increasing revenues from the dividends of Plzeňská teplárenská," said the economic deputy mayor Martin Zrzavecký to ČTK. According to him, the budget also includes funds for the construction of an athletics area, which will be moved from Štruncovy sady to the outskirts of the city in Skvrňany.
"If the budget changes are approved by the council, the tender for the construction contractor will be issued immediately," the deputy stated. By the end of January, the documentation for the building permit will be completed. The city hall will first remove the earthen mounds where the non-functional stands are located. "Then the actual reconstruction of the stadium will begin, the shifting of the pitch, and the construction of new stands," said the technical deputy mayor Petr Rund.
The stadium, where the current leader of the first league plays, does not meet the conditions for holding European cup matches. From a technical standpoint, it also does not comply with the conditions of the Czech-Moravian Football Association's League Stadiums 2012 project.
Due to the reconstruction of the area, the city is also addressing the relocation of the athletics club's activities. Its new facility will be built in Skvrňany on land near a vocational school. In the first phase, a track for athletes will be constructed. Next year, the city plans to build stands, a covered runway, and a parking lot. The construction costs are estimated at around 67 million crowns.
