Pardubice – The Pardubice Region intends to continue the reconstruction of another part of the Automatic Mills, which it purchased from the Smetana couple in the future. Currently, it is already modifying the front, oldest section for the East Bohemian Gallery. In the future, the adjacent rear extension should also serve this purpose, stated Roman Línek, the Deputy Governor for Investment and Culture (Coalition for Pardubice Region) to ČTK.

"The current reconstruction plans for a structural continuation, the solution itself is not finished yet. No one disputes that it is necessary to expand the spaces for the gallery, which would completely vacate the castle,” Línek stated. According to him, the rear part of the building should contain offices for gallery employees and possibly exhibition spaces.

The Pardubice Region purchased a part of the national monument, which consists of the original mill structure designed by architect Josef Gočár and a later extension from the late 1950s or 1960s. The rear section was counted as a reserve for the gallery, and this part of the reconstruction could start no earlier than after 2024.

The current adjustment of the mills will cost the region 373 million crowns, and it should be completed in 2022. The regional authority will receive 110 million crowns from European funds and 13 million crowns from the state for it.
