Otrokovice – Otrokovice in the Zlín Region wants to restore the recreational area of Štěrkoviště. The goal of the restoration is to preserve the greenery and the natural character of the area, but also to modernize the location and ensure higher comfort for visitors. The city spokesperson Romana Pastuszková informed ČTK today in a press release.
The restoration of Štěrkoviště will be gradual and is divided into three areas. "Access paths and parking lots, as well as the fortification of the eastern shore of the water surface, including the construction of a gravel path for pedestrians, will restore the possibility of free movement around the entire water area of Štěrkoviště, and the reconstruction of the existing recreational part," said Dita Doleželová from the city's development department.
The recreational part is also divided into three phases, in the first phase are the facilities that do not require long legislative preparation and can be completed this year. "The first swallow will please our children, both the smallest and the older ones, by constructing a new playground with very interesting and original play elements, including safe fall areas, before the start of the summer season. Additionally, there is interest this year in improving direct access to the water both via beaches and by restoring existing concrete breakwaters in the form of wooden piers and relaxation terraces, including adjustments to the sandy beach for the youngest and separate floating circular piers on the water surface," said mayor Hana Večerková (ANO).
The second phase deals with the project preparation of the facilities for the recreational area, primarily the new main building with amenities for the area manager and a restaurant with a view. "Furthermore, the project will include new entrances to the site, snack bars, and especially new social amenities for the recreational users. The existing sports facilities – beach volleyball courts, streetball, and ping pong, as well as a new area for street workout – will undergo modernization," said the spokesperson.
The third phase presents prospective uses and potential additions to the recreational part, such as the reconstruction of the water world or a terrace above the water. "The goal of the complete reconstruction of the area is not to enhance the attractiveness of Štěrkoviště for the purpose of tourism development, but I consider it essential to provide a modernized recreational space for the city's residents," said the mayor. The restoration of Štěrkoviště is planned for five years. "For this purpose, we want to allocate five to ten million crowns from the city budget each year. We will also apply for grant titles, even though currently low amounts are awarded for renovations of this type," stated the mayor.
