Ostrava – Ostrava continues in the preparation for the construction of a parking garage in the city center. Due to the necessary surveys for the design of the technical and construction solution of the building, the parking lot at Msgre Šrámek Square will have to be closed for two weeks. This was announced today by city hall spokesperson Gabriela Pokorná.
The parking lot will be closed from August 22 to September 5. This year, the city plans another month-long closure as well. "Probably in the autumn months, an archaeological survey will also be conducted at the site. A study of the building is currently being processed, followed by documentation for the joint permit and construction documentation," stated Pokorná.
The actual construction of the parking garage at the corner of Zámecká and Purkyňova streets should begin by 2026. The parking garage behind the Cathedral of the Divine Redeemer will be built on a site exceeding 2000 m². The multifunctional parking garage will have two underground and seven above-ground floors and will offer 400 parking spaces. The ground floor of the building will feature spaces for shops, services, and gastronomy. The construction costs are expected to be approximately 500 million crowns.
"The multifunctional parking garage will thus provide the desired parking spaces in the city center. If necessary, the building can also be converted into an apartment building. The renowned studio Chalupa architekti shaped the appearance of the new building; the winning design was selected by a panel of experts in an architectural competition," the spokesperson reminded. The expert jury selected the winner from six submitted designs. The jury evaluated the quality of the overall urban and architectural solution, as well as the operational, traffic, and technical solutions, its economy, and economic appropriateness.
