Olomouc - The Olomouc City Hall has announced a public bidding competition for a company that will regenerate the barracks in the Neředín district. The city aims to convert the area into a business zone. The modifications of the barracks, which the city acquired from the state two years ago, are estimated to cost nearly 60 million crowns. The city will attempt to secure a grant for the project, said Jaromír Czmero, the mayor's deputy, to ČTK.

The City Hall will accept offers until September 6. According to the competition conditions, the winner will be required to start the regeneration of the barracks next year. "The contract includes the demolition of unsuitable buildings, the construction of a new entrance to the area, and the reconstruction of three local houses," Czmero stated.
Regarding the investment costs, he mentioned that they are estimated to reach 58.7 million crowns. The City Hall will attempt to obtain approximately 41 million crowns from the European Reality program, which aims to support projects for the preparation, development, and regeneration of industrial zones and business properties. The remaining approximately 17.7 million crowns would be covered by the city’s own resources.
According to the city leadership, the area of the former barracks near the Neředín airport is expected to be occupied by entrepreneurs. "We want to use it for business, services, and manufacturing activities. There is also the potential for storage activities," said Deputy Mayor Miroslav Petřík earlier.
The army has already rid itself of all large military complexes in Olomouc. After the complex near Baumax, the monumentally protected building of the old town barracks on Studentská Street has also found its new owner.
