Olomouc - The Olomouc City Hall is considering establishing a new industrial and business zone on the site of the former barracks in Neředín to offer investors additional land. Three municipal industrial zones are occupied, and the city hall has not had available land for investors for some time.

"At the moment when a larger investor is supposed to come to Olomouc, we have nothing to offer him," said today the deputy mayor Aleš Jakubec (TOP 09) to reporters, noting that the city hall is currently facing problems with finding and developing new business areas. "The situation is complicated by the limited amount of land owned by the city and primarily by the strict protection of agricultural land," he pointed out.
Olomouc, meanwhile, has a favorable geographic location and according to Jakubec, it remains on the radar of potential investors. "Therefore, we will now address the area of the former Neředín barracks, where we see potential for further business use. However, like in other places, property rights relationships complicate the situation for us," Jakubec said, adding that this area could be revitalized thanks to new EU subsidies.
The city industrial zone Keplerova no longer offers free plots, where companies such as the Belgian firm Fardis, the French company Leroy Somer, and the British Senior Automotive have settled. The Pavelkova zone is also occupied. According to Jakubec, around 2,000 direct jobs have been created in both industrial zones, with an additional 1,000 positions established with subcontractors.
The Šlechtitelů industrial zone in Olomouc, completed in 2006 and covering about 17 hectares, is also completely filled with several smaller enterprises producing items such as packaging materials, windows, and automotive accessories.
