Prague – The Prague 22 municipality will select the winner of the architectural-urban planning competition for the transformation of the area around the Uhříněves train station in June next year. The construction start is planned for June 2024 and is expected to last for a year. What specifically will change in the vicinity of the station will become clear after the competition concludes.
"Uhříněves is one of the most affected areas in Prague by transit traffic. Our aim is to restore its local character. The revitalization of the area around the station and the creation of a transit transport hub reflects the emphasis we place on public transport. We expect a timeless solution. The goal is to have a vision for the entire area around the station and the railway line from both sides of the tracks," stated councilor Štěpán Zmátlo (KDU-ČSL).
The purpose of the competition is to urbanistically connect heterogeneous urban structures, as well as transport relationships and connections. This means, for example, solving the integration of the railway with the public transport buses, parking, or the incorporation of cycling transport. A new transport terminal is expected to be created. The winner will propose the placement of furniture and other elements of the public space and will also address the lack of public toilets. Architects will have to include the needs of local residents in their plans.
The municipal district announced the urban-architectural competition for the renewal of the area around the station this November. The evaluation of the portfolios of competition applicants will take place on Friday, January 7, 2022, followed by a site visit on January 27, combined with a meeting with residents in the form of round tables. Participants will have to submit concepts in March and final designs by June 9, 2022, from which an expert jury will select the winner. The deadline for the winner to complete the project has been set for December 2023.
The transformation of the municipality collaborates with Czech Railways, the Railway Administration, and the organization Ropid, which plans Prague's public transport.
Uhříněves is located on the southeastern edge of Prague, and a railway line runs through it from Prague to Benešov and České Budějovice. In addition to long-distance trains, suburban trains of line S also stop there, and suburban buses pass through the municipality towards Říčany near Prague.
