"There was a working meeting of the councilors and two meetings with the citizens of Nymburk at public meetings on April 4 and 6," said Mach. The mayor proposed a resolution for the pool reconstruction. The majority of voters in the online survey of the city and councilors shared the same opinion. At the meeting, 12 present councilors voted for the reconstruction option, two were against, and six abstained.
Although the old pool is still functional, it is outdated and does not meet hygiene standards anymore. Its reconstruction is expected to combine it with the adjacent service building. In addition to necessary investments in social facilities, tiling, and air conditioning, water attractions such as a whirlpool, slides, or a wellness corner will be added. The layout of the main pool will remain unchanged. According to experts, an advantage of this solution is the fact that the pool forms an urban complex with the neighboring hospital, allowing for both buildings to be interconnected and used, for example, for patient rehabilitation.
"The pool in Nymburk should not serve as a substitute for aqua centers in the area; it should be a standard for the residents of Nymburk. In this variant, the city is capable of financing it. It is not a profit-oriented matter, but Nymburk deserves a pool," said Mayor Mach at the council meeting. "I definitely prefer the reconstruction of the pool, which meets the needs of Nymburk. Facilities with more extensive equipment are within reach, whether in Mladá Boleslav, Prague, or Jičín," said earlier the director of the Nymburk Sports Center, Monika Bezděková.
"By deciding on reconstruction, it is possible to use financial resources from the Operational Program for the Environment for insulation and potential recovery solutions," said Zdeněk Vocásek, the city councilor responsible for investments. "Financing will thus be multi-sourced," he added. The city will now prepare documentation for zoning and construction permits and then choose a suitable grant title; only then will it issue a contract for implementation. According to Vocásek, construction will definitely not start this year. "The plan is more for 2018/19, when work would begin," added the councilor. The reconstructed city pool will be the home pool for local swim clubs and will also serve the public.
