Brno – One of the most visible remnants of the 90s in Brno, the erotic club Moulin Rouge at the corner of Slovákova and Kounicova streets in the wider city center, is currently being demolished by workers. A building with 36 apartments will rise in its place, which will be constructed by the developer Winning Estate. As Ondřej Blaho, the general director and a member of the board of Winning PS, told ČTK, the former tenement house from the turn of the 19th and 20th century was not suitable for conversion into apartments due to its layout and structural condition.
"The original building was already extended in the 90s and its structural condition did not allow for any significant alterations. The original intended use was as a girls' dormitory, which influenced the layout of the existing rooms, making them unsuitable for creating residential units," Blaho stated. In addition to the 36 apartments with layouts ranging from 1+kk to 4+kk, the new building will also have underground parking and two commercial units. It is expected to be completed in 2024.
In the early 90s, the building received a garish pink coat of paint and a flood of neon lights, and after the year 2000, another renovation was carried out, which added an additional floor to the structure.
