Prague - The National Library, in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture, will organize an open house on Sunday at the Klementinum in Prague, the library's headquarters. During this day, a press conference will be held in the Mirror Chapel, accessible to the general public, where Minister of Culture Vítězslav Jandák plans to discuss the possibility of using funds from the returns of the National Property Fund (FNM) for the renovation of the National Library and the National Museum. The conference will also be attended by the director of the National Library Vlastimil Ježek. This was reported to ČTK by the spokesperson of the Ministry of Culture Ludmila Kadrnková. During the open house, from 12:00 to 19:00, the general reading room, which is the former Jesuit summer refectory, the service hall, and an exhibition of Latvian books will be accessible to the public. Access to the general reading room is limited to individuals with a library card, but the service hall is generally accessible to anyone, so its availability during the open house does not offer a unique experience. Funds for the renovation of the National Museum, National Library, and other architectural monuments can be drawn from the FNM resources according to the amendment to the law on the abolition of this fund. Originally, the parliamentary amendment was meant to secure two billion crowns for the reconstruction of the National Library and National Museum; however, the Chamber of Deputies ultimately accepted a version that lacks a specific amount and the scope of cultural monuments is defined much more generally. In this form, the amendment was signed by the president at the beginning of May.
