Prague – An execution has been imposed on the long-neglected Vyšehrad train station building in Prague, and it will likely go to auction. This follows from the execution order that ČTK has at its disposal. The reason is unpaid fines that the monuments authority imposed on the owners in the past due to the poor condition of the monument-protected building. Prague previously wanted to buy the building but failed to reach an agreement with the owners on the price. According to councilor Jan Chabr (TOP 09), the city will definitely participate in any potential auction.

The building, which has been privately owned since 2007, is owned by the Cypriot company MIQUELIRA LIMITED through the company RailCity Vyšehrad. The actual owner is not officially known. The court decided on the execution in mid-June, and the execution order was issued by the court executor on July 14. The owners may still request a suspension of the execution or pay the outstanding amount, which has been estimated at around 14.2 million crowns. According to earlier information from the city hall, the owners received five fines, of which they only paid one.

City hall representatives previously also discussed the possibility of expropriation, which is allowed by the monuments care law for monuments whose owner has long neglected. Negotiations on the purchase or exchange did not lead to a conclusion, according to councilor Chabr. "We could not agree on a realistic financial amount, plus the property is burdened with a mortgage of more than three hundred million," he said. "If an execution sale takes place in the form of an auction, we as a city will definitely be one of the interested parties," he added.

The building from the early 20th century was declared a cultural monument in 2000. Investors previously planned to renovate the building, but this plan fell through partly due to difficulties in getting the project approved by the monuments authority. As a result, the building has long been falling into disrepair. Train operations were halted around 1960, and restoring its original function is no longer possible, as modern regulations do not allow for a train station to be located in a curve. Instead, the city plans a train stop at Výtoň.
