In the Bethlehem Chapel, the inscription "For Truth" appears in the sunshine

Prague - People can see the inscription "For the Truth" at the Bethlehem Chapel in Prague, where Jan Hus preached. The inscription appears on the façade of the chapel thanks to the placement of metal plates, but only on sunny days. The installation was officially unveiled on Monday as part of the Hus Festivals, which commemorate the 600th anniversary of the reformer's martyrdom.

"The truth appears only occasionally," noted Hynek Fajmon, the chairman of the Association for the Commemoration of the Legacy of Master Jan Hus, in his speech. He admitted that the initiators of the artistic work initially did not believe it would work. However, dozens of people personally confirmed it when they came to see the unveiling of the architectural feature.
The selection committee appreciated the refinement and at the same time the transience of the winning design, which is not dependent on human desire but on divine will. Additionally, a ray of sunlight can be understood as a symbol of the spark from Constance or the ignition of a flame, wrote commission member and architect David Vávra in his evaluation.
The project was inspired by entrepreneur Libor Burian, who decided to fund an initiative that would permanently commemorate Hus on the occasion of the anniversary. Burian today described Hus as a significant figure in Czech and European history who still has much to say. "These eight letters will carry Hus's legacy for six hundred years," he said. The same installation in German is also present in Constance on the façade of the Stephanschule, where Hus was imprisoned.
The authors of the work are architects Jerry Koza and Adam Jirkal from the Prague Atelier SAD and sculptor Martin Papcún, who lives in Munich. The installation of the artwork is the result of cooperation between the Czech Technical University, the owner of the Bethlehem Chapel, and the Association for the Commemoration of the Legacy of Master Jan Hus.
On Monday, a new bell also rang for the first time in the Bethlehem Chapel. It was cast last December right in the chapel's courtyard by young bellmaker Michal Votruba. The bell features a scene from the Jena Codex with Jan Hus preaching in the Bethlehem Chapel. The bell is unusually divided into thirds, with the Bible and a chalice in the other sections.
The center of the Hus Festivals on Monday became Old Town Square, which offered a musical program of various genres, an ecumenical service, and even a satirical skit in which the representative of Hus rode around the square on a Segway scooter and subsequently made a small fire from a few sticks. Events were also held in the nearby Fruit Market and surrounding churches, where lectures, discussions, exhibitions, and screenings took place, among other activities.
