Most - The city of Most has signed a purchase agreement for the acquisition of the Prior department store. The city will pay 62 million crowns for the building, including the adjacent parking lot and land. This was reported by the city hall spokesperson, Klára Vydrová. The city is now preparing a plan for reconstruction. The building is in very poor condition, and the surfaces around it are also damaged.
The concrete structure was built in the late 1970s after the demolition of the old Most, a decision made by the then Czechoslovak government due to coal mining. At the same time, the cultural house Repre, constructed from reinforced concrete blocks, was being built. The city is currently renovating this building. According to the city hall, the acquisition of another property should help revitalize the city center.
There are leaks in Prior, and the building has been modified in various ways in the past, particularly the basement has been expanded. The costs for repairs will be in the hundreds of millions of crowns, said Mayor Marek Hrvol (ProMOST) during the approval of the purchase. According to the mayor, the space could house a multiplex cinema, which is currently lacking in Most. The remaining area would serve commercial purposes and services. "After the takeover, we would commission a structural and technical survey, from which we will determine whether the structures are sound," stated the mayor. Now, we are waiting for the entry in the real estate register.
The subsequent architectural competition will determine the future form of Prior. The city leadership does not plan any fundamental changes to its appearance. Hrvol urged the councilors to participate in the discussion about the use and design of the building.
