Brno – The problems of the Ponava area, which includes the site of the former sports complex Za Lužánkami in Brno, can be described by people in an online survey. They can also express their wishes regarding the use of the area and what should not be there. The opportunity to fill out the survey is available until October 20. The opinions obtained through it and meetings with residents will subsequently serve as a basis for planning the revitalization of this site. This will be facilitated by the planned demolition of the football stadium, which is unusable due to extensive construction and structural defects.
A multifunctional sports facility, including a speed skating track, was supposed to be built in the area. However, in April, the council decided to terminate the project. The city proposed a change for part of the area in the new zoning plan, converting it to a mixed residential general area that allows for a wide range of uses. The current effort is to prepare a spatial study with a vision of transforming Ponava into a modern and ecologically sustainable new district.
"Every change evokes emotions, even more so when it concerns a place that people associate primarily with a certain way of use. Therefore, a competitive dialogue was chosen for the selection of the author of the spatial study, which allows the involvement of all important stakeholders in the area and the utilization of experiences and opinions from several teams composed of urban planners, landscape architects, and other specialists. Through a joint dialogue among the city, experts, and competition participants, the best solution for revitalizing this part of the city can be found," stated the Office of the Architect of the City of Brno (KAM) on its website, which organizes the competitive dialogue.
People can get involved in the transformation on October 8 during a meeting and walk with representatives of Brno and city districts, KAM staff, and other experts. Another possibility is the survey. The opinions obtained will serve as a basis for architects and urban planners participating in the mentioned competitive dialogue. KAM will present the results at an exhibition. It is subsequently expected that the spatial study will be discussed with the public.
