The Liberec Region awarded the exhibition center, the municipal office, and the bridge

Liberec - The new Pavilion A of the Jablonec Exhibition Grounds, the transformation of the former library in Liberec into a new city hall, and the railway bridge in Dolní Libchavě are the winning constructions in the Building of the Year competition of the Liberec Region. This award has been granted by the region for the third time. This year's jury evaluated a total of 13 constructions in three categories. The organizers decided for the first time to categorize the buildings by functionality, technical and construction execution.
This year, the jury separately assessed residential and civic construction, purpose-built and industrial buildings, including renovations, and there was a separate category for engineering, transport, or water management buildings. Photographs and documentation of all winning and also participating constructions can be viewed by interested parties until the end of October at the exhibition in the lobby of the regional office, said Jiří Langer, spokesman for the regional office, to ČTK today.
According to the regional councilor for development, the aim of the competition is not just to compare the work of construction companies and designers in the region, but also to present it to investors. A condition for the competition is that the building must be realized within the territory of the region. The first edition, which took place two years ago, evaluated constructions from a five-year period. The transformation of the canteen of the Technical University in Liberec won at that time, and the footbridge Rádlo was awarded for its original solution. Last year's competition could involve constructions certified from January 1, 2004, to June 30 of last year. This year, the competition was opened to actions completed in 2005 and 2006, certified by March 31 of this year.
A year ago, the jury assessed 12 constructions. The conversion of the former Vista factory building in the center of Semily for the needs of the local city hall won. The transformation according to a project authored by Liberec architect Filip Horatschke was successful in the national competition Building of the Year 2006 as well. Similarly, the reconstruction and completion of the City Stadium in Liberec also succeeded, winning an extraordinary award from the governor last year.
