Prague - Kramář Villa in Prague, which serves as the residence of Czech Prime Ministers, will exceptionally open to the public today. People can visit the Prime Minister's residence from 09:00 to 17:00. This year, which marks the centenary of the establishment of Czechoslovakia, the Government Office opens Kramář Villa every Saturday from April to October. In addition, it was opened in May during the Open House architecture festival. Another exceptional opening is scheduled for the national holidays on October 28 and November 17.
In connection with the anniversary of the republic's founding, the villa is open more frequently this year than has been common in the past. This year it is expected to be open for a total of 32 days. Those interested in tours can visit it without prior reservation every Saturday from April to October from 9:00 to 16:00. Exceptions will be the Saturdays of July 7 and October 27, when the open house will not take place due to the preceding or upcoming national holiday during which the villa will be open. During April and May, it was visited by 7,177 people.
Construction of the building began under builder Josef Čámský in 1911 and lasted five years. The villa was built on an old bastion and has over 50 rooms. From an architectural perspective, the villa is difficult to classify, as the Neo-Baroque style is supplemented by typical Art Nouveau elements. The first owners were Czechoslovak Prime Minister Karel Kramář and his wife Naděžda. After the deaths of the Kramář couple in 1938, the property passed into the ownership of the Society of Dr. Karel Kramář, which rented it to the National Gallery. The property was then taken over by the National Museum, and in 1952 it came under the administration of the Office of the Presidency of the Government, which used it for representative purposes and for accommodating state visits. Since 1998, the villa has served as the residence of Czech Prime Ministers.
