Martin Strakoš - Romana Rosová

A walk in the footsteps

Guide to the architecture of Krnov

This year, the National Heritage Institute, regional specialized workplace in Ostrava, is preparing to publish a Guide to the Architecture of Krnov with the support of the city and other sponsors. The walk, led by the authors of the publication Martin Strakoš and Romana Rosová, will present the most interesting examples of architecturally valuable buildings in the center of Krnov to the participants. We will introduce the works of local builders Josef Hartel, Franz Blasche, or Eduard Frank, as well as the works of prominent architects who exceed local contexts. The first among them are the buildings of architect and Krnov native Leopold Bauer, a graduate of studies at the Vienna Academy under Professor Otto Wagner. Other creators of Central European significance include architects Otto Prutscher, the author of Theodor Flemmich's villa, and Leo Kammel, the author of the local theater.

We will also visit an example of quality contemporary architecture – the K3 tennis hall designed by the Brno architectural office of Zdeněk Eichler, Tomáš Beránek, and Rostislav Jakubec. Organized in cooperation with the National Heritage Institute, regional specialized workplace in Ostrava.
Participants will meet on October 6 at 2:00 PM at the Leopold Bauer memorial in the Main Square near the Krnov town hall.
Recommended transportation from Ostrava and Opava by train – for example, the express train leaves from Ostrava-Svinov railway station at 12:08 and from Opava-Východ station at 12:33 towards Krnov-Cvilín station. Meet at the Leopold Bauer memorial in the Main Square in Krnov.
