The book by Pavla Melková and Petr Blažka provides a brief explanation of the architectural intent and concept of the memorial, along with a wealth of information about the life, times, and legacy of Jan Palach. The book "Hrana" guides us through the Jan Palach memorial in Všetaty. It is about the life of Jan Palach and society during his time as well as in the present, about architecture and its ability to communicate, about our personal role in shaping the world. We traverse through the symbols contained in the architectural and artistic layer of the building, as well as through the information focused in the historical exhibition of the museum. The form of the memorial is a symbol of the situation when an edge of evil intervened in the life of the country, family, and individual from the outside, along with a challenge. It emphasizes the significance of the act based on heeding the historical appeal by the individual and thus highlights the relevance of Palach's act in a universal context for the present. It calls us to listen to the challenges of today and to respond personally to them.
