Hradec Králové has a new parking garage, another one is being planned

Hradec Králové - The company ISP Hradec Králové officially opened the Jana Gayer parking garage for 284 cars today in the center of Hradec Králové. The garages, which cost approximately 135 million crowns, will be open to the public starting Wednesday morning. The private company ISP, which operates the parking system in Hradec Králové, is starting preparations for the construction of another parking garage in the Slezské Předměstí district. Jiří Holubec, a member of the board of directors of ISP Hradec Králové, said this to ČTK.

The Jana Gayer parking garage is intended to help address the problem of insufficient parking spaces in the historic center of the city with a population of one hundred thousand. The garages were created from spring last year in the area of the Gayer barracks. The entrance and exit to the garages are via the roundabout on Šimková Street. From Wednesday to Friday, parking in the garages will be free, allowing motorists the opportunity to try out the parking garage.

For short-term parking, drivers will pay ten crowns for the first two hours, and two crowns for each additional begun hour. For parking from 18:00 to 06:00, a one-time fee of 20 crowns will be charged. Residents living near the garages can purchase annual parking for 3,000 crowns. Individuals and companies that operate or own property in the zone will pay 9,000 crowns for a so-called subscriber annual parking card.

The company ISP Hradec Králové belongs to the construction company BAK and has been operating the parking system in Hradec Králové since January 2007 based on a thirty-year concession contract granted by the Hradec Králové city council. ISP is required to create at least 1,000 parking spaces in Hradec using funds collected from parking fees. Half of this commitment was fulfilled in 2009 when they opened the Katschnerka garages with 500 spaces at a cost of 121 million crowns. With today's opening of the Jana Gayer garage, they have created a total of 784 spaces.

ISP plans to build another parking garage on the existing municipal parking lot on Jižní Street in the Slezské Předměstí. "We are preparing a study for the parking garage. Depending on the variant, it could have approximately 200 to 300 parking spaces," said Holubec. According to him, there is a deficit of 300 parking spaces in the area. In Jižní Street and its surroundings, there is, for example, a large polyclinic, the headquarters of social security administration, and several large panel apartment buildings.

"By the end of this year, we would like to apply for a zoning decision. If everything goes smoothly, the actual construction of the parking garage could begin in 2022," stated Holubec. According to him, the parking garage could be named after the hill Rožberk, which used to be located there and was demolished during the construction of the Hradec fortress.

The prices for parking in the ISP zone are determined by the city, which does not invest any of its money into the parking system or the construction of parking garages. The company collects fees from 7,200 parking spaces in the ISP zone, which covers the center and broader city center, to which the Jana Gayer garages will now be added. In 2017, ISP Hradec Králové had revenues of 47 million crowns and a profit of 16.3 million crowns. The price for an hour of parking in Hradec ranges from ten to 30 crowns depending on the location.
