Hotel Myslivna near Brno is disappearing, according to a historian it was an art museum of the 1980s

Brno – The building of the Brno hotel Myslivna, which offered an extraordinary view of the city from the hillside in the Kohoutovice district, is disappearing. A private investor who purchased the building from the city will construct a six-story complex with apartments, hotel suites, a restaurant, and a wellness center. Miroslav Gebas, a representative of the investor, told ČTK that the structure had poor statics. According to architectural historian Šárka Svobodová, who specializes in Brno architecture of the 1980s, the hotel was full of artworks, a part of which was destroyed during the demolition of the building.

"Hotel Myslivna represented three historical epochs. An old stone hunting lodge stood on the site, on the foundation of which a recreational restaurant was built between 1938 and 1939, designed by Bohumil Tureček. Architect Jan Dvořák, who designed the hotel built from 1980 to 1987, incorporated the structure of Tureček's restaurant into his design," stated Svobodová.

The hotel was long owned by the city, which, however, did not invest in it. As a result, a number of period artworks that were part of the interior were preserved in the hotel. "Only the original orientation signage by Jan Rajlich the Elder was a work of art, as were the huge wooden reliefs and the original light fixtures," Svobodová noted. According to her, many of these items could have become part of the artistic collections of Brno museums.

Gebas stated that workers had the task of storing the removable interior components before demolition. "I don't think all of them were destroyed, but some of them could not be dismantled. We want to use some sculptures in the interior of the New Myslivna in the hotel lobby," he said.

The new building was designed by architect Jan Kyzlink, who was inspired by the original structure and preserved its footprint. Instead of observation terraces for the hotel restaurant, an observation restaurant with a terrace on the roof of the entire complex will be built above Kohoutovice, which will be accessible to the public. "Playgrounds and park adaptations are also planned around the building so that people can continue to use it as an excursion site," Gebas added.

Construction workers are now demolishing the old building, and the new complex is expected to be completed by spring 2026.
