Hradec Králové - The Town Hall of Hradec Králové is preparing to redevelop the busy space between the winter stadium, Jiráskovy Sady, and the Art Nouveau Hučák hydroelectric power station in the city center. Builders will, for example, finish constructing cycling paths and restore the existing ones. New connections will also be created. Relocations of several engineering networks are also planned. The investment is expected to cost around 17 million crowns excluding VAT. The exact price will be determined by a tender for a construction company.
"This is an area where cycling paths along ČSA Square converge quite chaotically, coming from Hučák and a footbridge over the Orlice River. Additionally, there is the main entrance to the popular Jiráskovy Sady," said Jiří Bláha (ODS), the Deputy Mayor for Investments. The new arrangement is expected to bring greater comfort and, above all, safety for pedestrians and cyclists.
The project will also include the repair of the path that runs through the park along Jiráskovy Sady and leads to Křižíková Street by the power station. At the winter stadium, bike racks will be planned for visitors attending events or hockey matches. Construction could begin in the summer and is expected to last for ten months. The city aims to secure a grant from EU funds for it.
The last major investment in cycling paths was completed by the city last December, when it opened the cycling path connecting the outskirts of Piletice and Rusek with Hradec Králové. The costs amounted to 22.3 million crowns including VAT.
