Prague - The General Secretary of the Czech participation at the World Expo 2010 in Shanghai will be Pavel Stehlík, who has held senior management positions in previous years. The government appointed him to the position on Wednesday evening.
"The government expects the commissioner to do his utmost to catch up on the ten-month delay in preparing the Czech Republic's exhibition at the World Expo, which will take place in 2010 in Shanghai, China," states the cabinet's website www.vlada.cz.
Sixty-year-old Stehlík worked, among other things, for ten years as a partner and senior manager at Deloitte Central Europe. He has experience in several European countries and various multinational companies. He speaks English and Russian.
The cabinet decided back in January that the Czech Republic would participate in the World Expo in China. However, it has only now selected the person who will be responsible for the preparations and presentation.
The General Director for Expo 2005, which took place in Japan, was Vladimír Darjanin. The Czech interactive Garden of Music and Fantasy was visited by nearly 1.7 million visitors. The Czech pavilion was a relaxation space with optical and sound objects that visitors could touch and try out.
The exhibition was accompanied by a number of cultural events, including glass, film, visual arts, and music exhibitions. Czech regions were also presented. The government allocated 300 million crowns for the country's presentation in the Aichi Prefecture in Japan. It is not yet clear how much will be spent on the upcoming exhibition.
